Growing up in a country where poverty seems to be the norm, I find it confusing how people tend to accept opinions that don’t even hold an ounce of truth. Like for example, long before the discovery that the tongue doesn’t really have compartments for the different tastes(salty, sweet, sour, etc.,), I already found it absurd how we only feel the taste in some parts of our tongue, and did not dare believed it. And I was right. I even remember my elementary teacher discussing the “fact” that our textbooks hold. Right now, I fear the mindset of my countrymen. For they tend to shrug off the impoverished life that they live, believing that asking for more would be a sin. When in fact it’s not. They say a poverty-free society is impossible, and I sometimes think it is, but I say and believe that it’s not. Some countries have already proven the fact with their low rate of unemployment, crime, poverty, etc. It would probably be better to enumerate my fears :

  1. I believe in the opportunities that education brings, and that our government should instead focus its efforts on improving our education standards, and reach. But I see the messed up rooms, and lacking supplies of most public schools, and I think of how stupid the government is for not providing that basic need. We wouldn’t be enjoying a comfortable life right now, if it weren’t for the university education that my parent’s receive on a really low fee of P75-P200 during their times in MSU-IIT Marawi. And I wouldn’t even be exposed to how the environment or world acts if it weren’t for my education. And i’m pretty sure that many would agree on me with this. Education is really important. And if only we would concentrate our efforts on the improvement of that particular sector of our society, then we’d be able to bring up more empowered, confident, and brilliant youth that would someday take responsibility for our country.
  2. The media, television and internet is feeding our youth with so much crap. I spend less than 5 mintues a day watching television, basically because i find the shows absurd, unless of course i stumble into some good shows in CNN or discovery channel. Our technology which should be integrating our society is instead isolating us from each other. These craps distracts us from what really matters, because we become so fed up with our selves.
  3. Which leads me to the discussion on the repetitive cycle of the current situation of our country. That instead of our countrymen thinking of ways to improve and contribute to our country, these very people are prioritizing their own welfare instead. And I do earnestly understand that these people only want what’s best for their families, and I agree on how our country gives so little to these professionals. That is why i greatly reach out to the youth who holds no responsibilities, who are free, and full of vibrant energy to bring their solutions and ideas to life. And that is precisely the reason why the government should provide better ways to inspire and empower these youth.
  4. I don’t believe that the problems lies on the government or leaders alone. Because each of us are accountable to our country’s success. We are reacting to events that hold no sense, or importance. We should instead argue on solutions for our country.
  5. I’m not feigning innocence to the vices that most youth bear, but I say that these are perfectly normal. It’s definitely okay to celebrate after a long hard day, but it would even be nicer to celebrate for a reason, right?
