After a series of moving to different apartments, I finally realized how I’ll never be able to build a library. Else, moving would definitely continue to be a pain (not to me, but to someone else who does the heavy lifting lol).
The first time I went to Cebu, my bags were filled more with books instead of clothes. So over the years, I’ve learned to restrain myself…. and convert to using eBooks and audiobooks instead!
Kindle & Audible
My hours are filled with this duo. I buy my eBooks through Amazon and my audiobooks at Audible (still by Amazon).
When I travel home, I prefer listening to audio books because I get nauseous if I read my phone while inside moving vehicles.
When I’m home, I prefer eBooks especially since I can carry a lot of them anywhere.
Someday, I’ll come to the decision of purchasing that Kindle E-Reader just so I won’t have to think about my phone’s battery.
So far, I think the costs are less compared to buying physical books. Although books will always be the best way to read, but when you are in a reading situation like mine, you definitely would start preferring the digital way.
Buying process
If you were buying a physical book, you only need to grab that taxi or jeepney and go to the nearest mall. You can either browse through Fully Booked or National Book Store.
But when you want it done the digital way,
- First, you need to sign up for an account at Amazon.
- Find the book you want to read, i.e 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos
- Make sure that you click on the “Kindle” format and click on “Buy now with 1-Click”
- Unlike Lazada which supports cash on delivery, you’ll have to make your payment first. You could either use PayPal, debit or credit cards.
- You can download the Kindle app on your phone or on your laptop, and you can just start reading!
If you prefer to give audio books a try, simply head over Audible and start browsing!
Try it out!
I’m not entirely sure if everyone is starting to adopt these alternatives to physical books. But I’m very thankful to have these available in the Philippines already.
