I delivered my icebreaker speech last March 24, 2018.

It was the first step of my Toastmasters journey.

Preparation

Preparing for my icebreaker speech was easy especially since I’ll only be talking about myself. I’ve been writing a lot on my journey, and I probably know my journey by heart, so the words simply flowed out through me. Days later, I was able to finish my speech with no sweat. In fact, I initially had a longer draft. After several revisions, I was able to condense it enough so that it fits into a 4-6 minute speech.

Also, I was blessed enough to have wonderful mentors who reviewed my speech and give some initial feedback. I initially struggled with writing a hook or intro and ending it with a powerful conclusion. Days later, I realized my introduction was too cliche (starting with a quote) and that I still have to work hard on it. The conclusion, on the other hand, was too short and needs to be improved on in the next few speeches.

Rehearsals

I probably rehearsed my speech for a whole week prior to delivering it. 2 weeks before presentation day, I was inducted at Cebu South Toastmasters. Days later, I finished the initial script, had it reviewed by my mentors, and then rehearsed it on video and in front of the mirror a dozen times.

How it went…

Go judge it yourself…Delivering your first speech sure is hard, and I could barely sleep the days before I presented. I was too keen on delivering it ASAP, that I couldn’t hold myself still while the first speaker still talked with his speech. Heck, I couldn’t even swallow & eat.

How did your first speech go?

My name is Roselle and I’m still working on my success story. You heard that right. I’m young, I work at home on my PJs and I’m still going to make many more mistakes in life. Just like you, just like we all do. But the other thing you should know about me is that I love helping people and this blog is one of the many outlets I have in connecting with you. I talk a lot about finance, business, and personal development. Visit my About page, if you want to know more about my story!
